This review is from: How to Write Descriptions of Eyes and Faces (Kindle Edition) I have a copy of both the Eyes/Faces book and the How to Write Descriptions of Hair and Skin book and find them a good resource for writing. I write nonfiction, so I use them for that, but this would work fine for fiction, perhaps even more so than for nonfiction. When you're writing, you can get mental fatigue where you can't think of anything descriptive but clichés, and you can get blocked where you can't keep writing because you're stuck on trying to think of something better than a cliché. These books have helped me past those situations by providing terms to get me thinking or to help me plug in a description and keep on going to finish my rough draft. The only thing that would make the books better would be an index of hyperlinked terms. But the linked chapter headings help me to find terms almost as quickly. See... The description of facial and eye characteristics and how to use these in a story for character development was very helpful. The pointing out of cliches was helpful. I've bought both books on eyes and face and hair and skin, and sometimes wish there had been a little more descriptions or alternatives suggested, but I guess there's only so much you can do to describe a color or feature. This review is from: Godefroy Instant Eyebrow Tint, Light Brown (Misc.) I had used this product several years ago and loved it then was unable to find it again. Now it's back and I am very happy. I have very light, sparse eyebrows with some gray hair as well. I use this product and it darkens them to my very light brown hair color and does cover the gray. I would say that it doesn't last for 6 weeks but it doesn't take long to dye them, so it's no big deal. If you are looking for a lighter shade, I would suggest only leaving it on for about 30-45 seconds. The first time I looked like Groucho Marx. And I hadn't protected my surrounding skin so it was everywhere. It will dye your skin and it does last for a day or two. So make sure that you use something on the surrounding skin to protect it. I apply a thin layer of mineral oil with a Q-tip (baby oil is exactly the same, it just has fragrance added) and I use a small, stiff angled makeup brush to apply it. I don't care for the wooden applicators they give you. If it is too light, you can always do... I used a old narrow mascara wand which I had cleaned, 2 Q-tips and a little olive oil in a small, small dish. I used half of a capsule of dye and mixed up the dye. Then I applied the oil around my brow with a Q-Tip. I applied the dye to the mascara wand very thinly and then brushed the dye on my brows. I took the clean end of the Q-Tip I had used to apply the oil and wiped off any dye that had gotten on my skin (very gently). I had a wet towel handy and after 30 seconds I wiped off the dye. My brows needed more color so I dyed them a second time. The color was just right and I had no color on my skin. The color is a darker brown, so I highly suggest that you wipe the dye off after 20 or 30 seconds the first time to make sure it is not too dark for you. I had plenty of dye left over so I don't think you need to use a whole capsule of dye unless you have a lot of brow to dye (my brows are thin). Anyway, be patient, don't skip any... I have medium blonde hair with highlights and lowlights and have been getting my eyebrows tinted at a salon for about 3 or 4 months now to give them some depth. What a difference a little extra color makes! Unfortunately I had to get them done every 3 weeks to keep the color. I decided to try this product as it was way cheaper than the salon of course. Instructions are very easy, no harsh chemical smells at all, very quick, and the results are actually better than the salon, I think. You have control over how light or dark you want them by the length of time you leave it on. 2 steps, done in 5 minutes! LOVE IT!!!! I paid $60 at a boutique salon to have my lashes tinted, and while I didn't much care for the experience (even though I kept my eyes closed, apparently they fluttered as they stayed closed, and some of the dye ran into my eyes and made me tear up excessively, so some of the dye ran down a bit with the tears - cleaned up ok, but the dye stung my eyes a bit), I LOVED how my eyelashes looked. Like mascara, but natural (ok, maybe the wrong word, but they looked natural!) even the little blonde tips. I recently found out that you can buy lash tints online (and while FDA has a warning against home lash tinting with certain ingredients, neither Roux nor 1000 Hours have those ingredients, from my research), so I'm doing an experiment, side by side. Went to the salon a few times to dye my eyebrows but had to go back frequently to maintain the color. The Roux tint last a long, long time even when using on a regular basis (every couple of weeks). Much cheaper than the salon. BEWARE!!! The first couple of times using the tint is a little dramatic...follow the instructions carefully. Once you get the hang of it the results are not so shocking and both brows can be done in five minutes. I'm hooked!
